Highland Housing

In June 2007 it was announced that gma had been succesful in winning a plot design in a nationwide architectural competition; the first of its kind in Scotland. We were one of 25 practices selected to create 50 homes with exemplar environmental and sustainable credentials.

Our chosen plot was a narrow site to which we proposed a terrace of three dwellings. Our intentions were to create a clear, strong terrace form that responds directly with the site and surroundings to give a distinct sense of place. By analysing home, family, community and the highland context, a comprehensible building can emerge with distinct architectural quality and language.

We were proud to work alongside IKEA who chose our terrace to be used an exemplar in interior furnishings, with each of the 3 properties kitted out to suit varying budgets.
